I am a mother with bicornuate uterus.

Me and my husband were very scared when doctor said that I have a bicornuate uterus. It was my 6th weeks of pregnancy and baby’s heartbeat was 147. We were scared because we had no knowledge about bicornuate uterus. After talking with doctors and net surfing we came to know that not only bicornuate there is also unicornuate uterus which is also not very common in women.
So lets know what is bicornuate and unicornuate uterus.

Bicournaute uterus: This type of uterus looks like heart shaped. Interesting right? But effect of bicournaute uterus is not very interesting because of miscarriage and high rate of premature delivery. Uterus divided into two parts from the middle so, egg fertilises in one part of uterus. Gradually when baby increases her size in womb the miscarriage and preturm labour risk also increses.

Unicornuate uterus : This type of uterus looks like horn shaped. The size of uterus is also small compared to normal uterus. Because one side of uterus does not form properly. Pregnancy in unicornuate uterus is in high risk with ectopic pregnency, miscarriage and preterm delivery. Infertility rate is also high in this case.

Diagnosis : women with Both bicornuate and unicornuate uterus can have painful menstruation. In my case normal ultrasound could not diagnose that I have a bicornuate uterus so I had to go with transvaginal ultrasound. Like me most of women come to know about their special uterus when they are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

This type of pregnency needs some extra care for healthy baby as well as a experienced doctor is very important to understand you and your condition.
